Claude MOMIRON was born in 1939 in the Seine-et-Oise and grew up in Paris. After searching for a career - he was even a television actor - he could not resist his thirst for creation for long. He trained in ceramics and the art of turning, then began to make nickel silver jewellery, incorporating everyday objects, which he sold at flea markets to support himself. He trained in jewellery making and also obtained a diploma in gemology. Two years later, he was successful and Claude MOMIRON was at the head of a team of twenty people in the Marais. He then began to create silver and gold jewellery. Following his participation in a trade show in Antibes, he moved to Biot, a small village on the French Riviera, which he fell in love with. He met the jeweller Denis ESSAYIE and rented the house of the jewellery designer TORUN. Shortly after, in 1977, he opened his art gallery which welcomed, in addition to his creations, many local artists, including those of the Nice School. In 1985, he opened a second gallery in Cannes. Recognized as one of the greatest designers of his generation, MOMIRON saw some of his works acquired by the Louvre Museum, the Fashion Museum and the Jewellery Museum. The artist then turned to sculpture and invented the concept of jewellery-sculpture, the first of which is placed on top of the second in the evening to become a "total" work of art. He will sculpt marble drapes, cloud sculptures and will continue to model ceramics, which makes Claude MOMIRON a multi-talented artist. He participated in many exhibitions. One example of a 1970s bib dress is in the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. This monographic sale pays tribute to the career of Claude MOMIRON, a renowned jewellery designer, goldsmith, ceramist and sculptor. The exceptional group of 170 pieces of jewellery that we have the honour and the pleasure of presenting allows us to retrace the years of creation of this formidable artist and to highlight in particular the taste of the 1970s and 1980s. A set of sculptures will also provide a better understanding of his world.
