The original, created around 1912, marks the beginning of Brâncuși’s exploration of the themes of birds and upward movement, which would lead to the “Birds in Space” series. This work can be compared to versions held, notably, at the Museum of Modern Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Centre Pompidou.
