Commonly attributed to Jean PROUVE (1901–1984) and Charles Edouard JEANNERET, KNOWN AS LE CORBUSIER (1887–1965) Refreshment table made for the Doncourt-lès-Conflans Aero Club circa 1938–1940 Melamine-laminated tabletop accented with red paint, mounted on black-lacquered metal legs resting on a double base of black-lacquered and chrome-plated metal 72 x 80 x 53 cm (Traces of rust; tabletop likely added later—chips and missing pieces) N.B.: The only residential building designed by Le Corbusier and Jean Prouvé, this clubhouse, nestled in greenery on the edge of the Doncourt-lès-Conflans airfield, offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding Meuse and Moselle valleys. It did not survive World War II. In 1937, architect Jacques Ogé designed an initial project for the flying club, intended for the training and accommodation of young pilot trainees. He enlisted the help of Fernand Léger for the interior design and Jean Prouvé for the furnishings. Left unfinished when war broke out, it was occupied by the Germans starting in 1940, who destroyed it upon their departure in 1944. *Sold by designation
