FABERGÉ - Lot 385
FABERGÉ World War I commemorative copper dish, with repoussé decoration of the double-headed imperial eagle inscribed in Cyrillic on the upper part "Guerre / Année 1914" and on the lower part "K. FABERGÉ". Some wear. Moscow, circa 1914. D. 11 cm. Expert : Maxime Charron History The First World War brought radical changes to Russia, notably the drastic reduction in sumptuous orders from the imperial family. Fabergé's workshops turned to the production of Red Cross-themed objects, and the most skilled goldsmiths contributed to the war effort by making grenades and cannon shells in their Moscow branches. Copper, brass and steel objects were produced, many of them embossed with the Romanov eagle and war-related inscriptions.
