Pablo GARGALLO (1881-1934)
Picasso mask, 1913.
Original lost-wax bronze by the Barcelona foundry Gimeno.

Based on the original stone sculpture in the Barcelona Museum of Modern Art.
Marked V. GIMENO FUN[dición].
20.5 x 19.5 x 14.5 cm.
Provenance:
- Cast during the artist's lifetime by the founder V. Gimeno-Blanes, artistic director of the Tanagra foundry in L'Hospitalet (Barcelona).
- Given or sold by the artist to Llorens Artigas (1892-1980), the famous Barcelona ceramist and friend of Gargallo, circa 1930.
- Sold by Llorens Artigas to Yves Revelli, French sculptor (1898-1971), circa 1945.
- Yves Revelli Collection, Carvajal Sale, Antibes, May 2, 2015
Certificate of authenticity:
- The work was the subject of a certificate of authenticity by Mr. Jean Anguerra Gargallo, the artist's grandson, on November 6, 2014, which states that "its recent discovery has not enabled it to be listed under no. 49a devoted to Picasso's Masque in the catalog raisonné drawn up by Pierrette Anguerra Gargallo, for Editions de l'Amateur in 1998".
- On March 28, 2022, Mr. Jean Anguerra Gargallo completed his first certificate to specify the name of the founder, which he had not deciphered in 2014. This document will be given to the successful bidder.
- Certificate from Virginie Journiac, CECOA, FNEPSA and CEDEA expert, specifying that this print is an "original bronze by Gargallo", executed in a single run, and not a posthumous print "after Gargallo" as is the case with the edition of 7 copies produced around 1954 by the Busato foundry (Paris). The Centre Pompidou owns bronze no. 3/7 from this posthumous edition, currently on deposit at the Musée d'art et d'industrie "La Piscine" in Roubaix.
