Roman marble statue of Aphrodite/Venus. - Lot 270

Roman marble statue of Aphrodite/Venus. Her right hand, whose remains are visible at pubic level, held the drapery. The left arm was attached, as evidenced by the insertion point. The position of the body and the drapery over the leg are similar to the Venus from Montmaurin (Haute-Garonne), itself derived from the Venus de Milo and the Venus from Capua. Antonine or Severian period (2nd-3rd c. AD) The statue is broken into two joined pieces at the abdomen. Some folds appear to have been retouched around the break. Visible missing parts (head, arms and legs), wear and accidents. Provenance: the statue was purchased from Château d'Habarcq (Pas-de-Calais) in 1990 (invoice). 108 x 35 x 33 cm. Height with base: 132 cm Expert : Jean Sylvain Caillou
