Earthenware jar - Lot 160
Earthenware jar
Ghana
Height: 25 cm
A composition that goes beyond classic iconographic codes: the jar's stopper is embodied in a face with closed eyes, wearing a distinctive headdress designating a high-ranking figure. On either side of the base, decorated with a linear, zig-zag frieze of engravings, two small figures with their legs and arms spread out seem to intertwine this base, which may also refer to the belly of the central figure.
