Gouro style mask - Lot 349
Gouro style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood, pigments
H :
Polychrome mask representing a stylized antelope head with curved forms. The mouth is half-open on sharp teeth, the animal out of breath evoking the mythical Zamble. The convex face is divided by a median rib, on either side the eyes are pierced and inscribed in large white orbits. The small zoomorphic ears frame the high headdress formed of nine erect horns.
