Ivory Coast
Wood
H : 43 cm
Female anthropomorphic statue sitting on a stool in the Ashanti style. The hands resting on the knees and the neck straight, she fixes the spectator in a hieratic attitude. The figure of a child, carved in the same block, stands out in relief on the back and clutches the left breast. The face has the characteristics of Baule sculpture: a cordial face, eyes swollen like coffee beans and keloids on the cheeks and forehead. The hairstyle consists of a sagittal crest and two flat braids on either side of the head.
