Reliquary figure of Fang style - Lot 279

Reliquary figure of Fang style Gabon Wood Height : 22,5 cm This reliquary figure representing a standing man can be linked to the Ntumu style among the different styles identified by Louis Perrois, in view of certain characteristics. The elongated form of the torso is sculpted like a long cylinder, extended by a powerful neck that supports the head with its hollowed out cordiform face. The slender and supple limbs are nevertheless muscular and well defined. The continuous line of arms meets above the protruding navel. The presence of the eyes, which are absent, is evoked by the imposing volume of the eyebrow arch; the small, prognathic mouth is pouting. FANG STYLE - RELIQUARY FIGURE 22.5 CM
