Luluwa style stick - Lot 112
Luluwa style stick
Democratic Republic of Congo
Wood
H : 62 cm
This ceremonial stick highlights the Luluwa beauty codes, notably expressed by the beautiful scarifications on the face and neck. This precision of detail contrasts with the extreme simplicity of the work on the rest of the body.
The dignity of the female figure is accentuated by the stylized features of the face: taut lips forming a rectangle, a pointed chin, almond-shaped eyes set in deeply hollowed sockets. The figure presents a child in front of her bust.
