Ligbi style mask - Lot 336
Ligbi style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height : 46 cm
This rare mask presents a face with three faces. Under the bulging forehead, two pairs of slit-shaped eyes enhanced by eyebrows and rings pigmented with white and blue are separated by three noses. The triple mouths are prognathic. The lateral wings show the influence of the neighboring Senufo. The skull is surmounted by two anthropomorphic figures, certainly representing a couple of ancestors.
