Statuette of Baule style - Lot 309
Statuette of Baule style
Ivory Coast
Wood
H : 45 cm
This representation seems to be that of a king sitting on his throne. The features are graceful and the body has multiple decorative scarifications. He wears a long braided beard (akanza tèndèn), held delicately with both hands. The ample bun is streaked with fine strands, a delicate braid follows the arc of the ears, and a long back braid completes the ensemble.
