Reliquary figure of Fang style - Lot 280
Reliquary figure of Fang style
Gabon
Wood
H : 20 cm
This reliquary figure can be linked to the Ntumu style among the different styles identified by Louis Perrois, based on certain characteristics. The elongated form of the torso is sculpted like a long cylinder, extended by a powerful neck that supports the head. The limbs are thin and supple, yet muscular and well-defined. The hands are placed on the abdomen, above the protruding navel, and hold an object of worship. The half-closed eyes are close together, the wide pouting lips are open over rows of teeth. The three-shell hairstyle is separated by deep grooves.
