Statuette of Songye style - Lot 260
Statuette of Songye style
Democratic Republic of Congo
Wood
Height : 34 cm
This statuette is related to the Belande style (see François Neyt), which is characterized by the expressionism of the mouth used to deliver important messages, but also by the large volume of the hairstyle and the feet in the form of huge snowshoes on a curved base. The gesture of the hands placed on the belly symbolizes its power of protection over the clan and the lineage.
