Senoufo style mask and helmet - Lot 254
Senoufo style mask and helmet
Ivory Coast
Wood, fabric, cowrie shells
Height: 23 cm
Mask-mask topped by two flat buffalo horns. The face of the animal plays on symmetry: straight nose with hemmed nostrils, slit eyes, rectangular mouth showing the teeth. Scarifications punctuate the composition. The representation of a crocodile in relief decorates the back of the helmet, while a male figure is sculpted in the round at its top.
