This statuette represents the mythical ancestor Chibinda Ilunga. The "musician king" is seated on a folding seat and plays the sanza, a classic iconography of the representation of power among the Chokwe. His attitude and position, the high hairstyle on top of his head, the emphasis on his hands and feet, the muscular volumes of his arms, and his large almond-shaped eyes are characteristic of the figuration of the chief, often presented as a man of the people.
figuration of the chief often presented as a hunter-surveyor or adopting a ritual attitude.
