Gouro style mask - Lot 227
Gouro style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height : 41 cm
This anthropozoomorphic mask has the attributes of an antelope, recognizable by its horns turned backwards. The pure and symmetrical features of the face converge towards the imposing and prognathic mouth, which is carried forward. The arch of the eyebrows meets in the center, from which the nose emerges, straight and pointed. Under drooping eyelids, the half-closed eyes are pierced. Small naturalistic ears complete the composition.
