Senoufo style mask - Lot 219
Senoufo style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height : 45 cm
This zoomorphic helmet-mask presents a hybrid animal figure, whose mouth is wide open and reveals a dangling tongue. From this gaping mouth come two horns marked with stripes that meet above the head. The bulging eyes are underlined by a thick arch of the eyebrows which announces the bulging forehead marked by scarifications. The pyramidal nose is pierced by two visible nostrils. The ears, heightened with red, are disproportionately large.
