Luluwa style statue - Lot 100
Luluwa style statue
Democratic Republic of Congo
Wood
Height : 52,5 cm
This Luluwa statue highlights the cultural codes of beauty, notably expressed by the scarification marks, the great refinement of the modeling, the warm red tones, and the magnificently sculpted finery. The dignity of the figure is accentuated by the strength of the face with its stylized features: taut lips forming a rectangle, diamond-shaped eyes inscribed in deeply hollowed sockets.
The left hand holds a small cup intended to protect newborns and their mothers.
